According to Japanese media outlets such as FNN on the 21st, Ms. Choi (29) traveled to Japan on the 27th of last month. The next day, on the 28th, she collapsed with suspected heatstroke symptoms and was transferred to Tokyo University of Science Hospital.
Choi's mother said she received a call from the Korean Embassy in Tokyo informing her that Choi had been taken to the hospital. When she called her daughter, Choi did not say where she was, but only asked her mother to send 1.5 million won.
It was confirmed that Choi paid her hospital bill with 160,000 yen sent by her mother. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Choi left the hospital alone. However, her whereabouts have not been identified since then.
Choi's mother told FNN, "I don't think she has enough money to stay for a long time," and added, "She needs to eat, sleep, and change clothes somehow, but I don't think she's able to do that." She continued, "She has no friends or acquaintances in Japan. She said she would return in three days. We are desperately searching for her." She also pleaded, "Please help her return to her family."
Choi is known to have worked as a nurse at a hospital near Seoul. The Korean Embassy in Japan is currently distributing flyers and collecting information regarding Choi's whereabouts.
