JYP Apologizes for Demanding Even School Records for Fan Meeting Identity Verification

JYP Entertainment has issued an official apology regarding the controversy over the excessive identity verification procedures during the admission process at the Day6 fan meeting, which allegedly led to the infringement of audience members' personal information.

On the 21st, JYP stated, "We sincerely apologize to the audience members who experienced inconvenience and harm due to the identity verification procedures at the Day6 fan meeting." The company admitted, "During the process of outsourcing admission management to an external operator, there were instances where unnecessary personal information was additionally requested, or information beyond the prepared documents was collected and shared."

The fan meeting, titled 'PIER 10: All My Days,' was held at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul from July 18 to 20 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Day6's debut.

Afterward, online communities and social networking services (SNS) were filled with claims that some staff members, citing discrepancies between the ID photo and the attendee's appearance, demanded addresses, resident registration numbers, financial certificates, and even school records from audience members.

The ticketing agency had previously announced that only resident registration cards, driver's licenses, and passports with attached photos would be accepted as valid IDs for identity verification. Student IDs, employee IDs, health insurance cards, resident registration certificates, and government employee IDs were explicitly stated as not being accepted.

Among fans, criticism followed, with comments such as, "Does a private company have the right to collect such sensitive personal information at an event?" and "The procedures are more stringent than those for a presidential election."

JYP apologized, stating, "The identity verification procedures were intended to protect actual attendees and prevent illegal ticket sales, but in this case, we failed to respond flexibly and fulfill our management responsibilities." The company added, "We will thoroughly review our procedures to ensure that individual privacy is not violated and will manage operations to prevent similar incidents from recurring."

The agency also stated, "For audience members who were unable to enter due to excessive identity verification, we promise a ticket refund as compensation," and added, "Detailed instructions regarding the compensation process will be announced separately at a later date."
