Large-Scale Weekend Party at North Carolina Mansion
Police Respond to Reports and Find Gardener, Not Homeowner
"Threw Graduation Party for Son... Broke Rules, Not the Law"
A man working as a gardener at a $6 million mansion in the United States has sparked controversy after throwing a graduation party for his son without the homeowner's permission.
On July 21, U.S. media outlet 'Moneywise' reported, "Residents in North Carolina reported a loud party, but it turned out that it was being hosted not by the homeowner, but by the gardener." According to the outlet, a large party was held without the owner's consent at a mansion in Weddington, North Carolina, valued at $4.3 million (approximately 5.9 billion KRW), leading to the arrest of a man. Michael Brown, 37, is accused of breaking into a client's home to throw a graduation party for his son. He has been charged with trespassing, property damage, and obtaining property by false pretenses, and was released on bail after posting $10,000 (approximately 13.7 million KRW).
Police responded on Saturday night after local residents reported blocked roads, noise, and traffic disruptions. When they arrived at the scene, Brown initially pretended to be the homeowner, then claimed to be the homeowner's grandson, and eventually admitted he was the gardener. Brown stated that the party was a graduation celebration for his son and his son's friends. He said he wanted to celebrate the graduation and make a little extra money. He also insisted he had not broken the law. While he admitted he may have violated some rules related to his clients, he maintained that he had not broken any laws.
The scene discovered by police was far from a simple celebration. Most of the attendees were teenagers and young adults, and there were about 300 to 400 people inside the house. There was also underage drinking. Police seized more than $3,000 in cash collected as admission fees. Brown claimed that the money was used to pay for security staff. He admitted to local media that he had charged admission, but strongly denied ever telling police that he was the homeowner.
However, Jante Birch, the son of the homeowner, accused Brown of abusing his parents' generosity, stating, "He is a liar. The fact that he told police several different versions of the story makes it obvious."
