Strengthening Public-Private Cooperation to Become a UN-Certified City
Discussing the Establishment of a Disaster Response Network with Chungnam Institute, Korea Midland Power, Konyang University, and Others
Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province has begun full-scale preparations to become a "Disaster Resilience Hub City" recognized by the international community.
The city announced on the 22nd that it held a "Community Disaster Resilience Enhancement Cooperation Meeting" in the situation room at City Hall on the 21st.
This meeting brought together officials from relevant organizations, including the Chief Policy Advisor of South Chungcheong Province, the Head of Boryeong City's Safety Management Division, the Director of the Disaster Safety Research Office at the Chungnam Institute, Korea Midland Power, and Konyang University, to discuss public-private cooperation measures.
The meeting was held as part of the "MCR2030 (Making Cities Resilient 2030)" campaign led by the United Nations, and served as an essential procedure to assess and enhance the disaster resilience level of local governments.
MCR2030 is a UN-led global campaign aimed at creating cities that are resilient to climate change and various disasters.
In particular, the meeting focused on practical cooperation measures to strengthen disaster response capabilities and build an urban resilience network.
This also serves as preliminary preparation for obtaining "Resilience Hub" certification from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in the future.
In June, the city participated in the international forum GP2025 held in Geneva, Switzerland, together with the Chungnam Institute, where they shared Boryeong's disaster management case with the world and interacted with global resilience hub cities.
Oh Kyungcheol, Head of Boryeong City's Safety Management Division, stated, "Through this cooperation meeting, we have once again reviewed Boryeong's disaster safety system and created an opportunity to establish a resilience strategy that meets global standards," adding, "We will steadily lay the foundation to become a UN-certified city."
