Korean Association for Policy Studies to Hold Discussion on 'Asking the Priorities of the New Government's Energy Policy'

The Energy Policy Research Group of the Korean Association for Policy Studies announced that, in collaboration with the Korea University Convergence Education and Research Group for Sustainable Energy·Resource Technology-Policy-Data, and the Korea Energy Economics Institute, it will hold a special session titled 'Open Discussion: Asking the Priorities of the New Government's Energy Policy' at 2:00 PM on July 23 at the Crystal Hall of the LW Convention Center.


This discussion, which will feature leading figures and scholars in the energy sector, is expected to cover a wide range of topics, from traditional energy sources such as electricity, heat, and nuclear power to future resources like hydrogen and renewable energy.


The event will begin with an opening address by Park Hyungjun, President of the Korean Association for Policy Studies (professor at Sungkyunkwan University), followed by presentations from experts in each sector.


In the electricity sector, Lee Sunghak, Head of Construction Innovation at the Transmission and Substation Construction Division of Korea Electric Power Corporation, will present on 'Measures to Enhance Acceptance of Power Facilities, Including the Special Act on Power Grids.' In the heat sector, Kim Kyungmin, Senior Researcher at the Future Business Division of Korea District Heating Corporation, will present on 'Carbon Neutrality and Thermal Energy.'


Ryu Jeongdong, Head of Policy Development at the Nuclear Policy Office of the Strategic Management Division of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, will present on 'Current Policy Issues in Nuclear Power Projects for Achieving Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality' in the nuclear sector. Kim Jaekyung, Senior Research Fellow at the Hydrogen Economy Research Group of the Energy and Climate Policy Research Division at the Korea Energy Economics Institute, will present on 'Status and Challenges of Hydrogen Economy Policy' in the hydrogen sector.


Lastly, Sung Taegun, Managing Director at Korea Asset Investment & Securities, will present on 'Plans to Promote Renewable Energy Projects: Utilizing Market Mechanisms (Incentives/Penalties)' in the renewable energy sector.


After the presentations, an open discussion will be held, chaired by Ha Yoonhee, Chair of the Energy Policy Research Group of the Korean Association for Policy Studies (professor at Korea University).


The panel will include Kang Kyungwan, Head of Hydrogen Convergence at the Green Growth Division of Korea South-East Power; Park Myungdeok, Head of Research Planning and Coordination Division at the Korea Energy Economics Institute; Park Hoon, Research Professor at the Ojeong Resilience Institute of Korea University; An Yeogwang, Professor at the School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech; Woo Jongryul, Professor at the Graduate School of Energy and Environment at Korea University; Park Rayoun, Head of Planning at Gridwiz; Kim Eunji, Professor at the Department of Law, Administration and Police at Kunsan National University; and Jeong Gyuchang, Team Leader at the Business Support Team of Hanwha Solutions Qcells Division.
