It has been reported that 78 residents of Gyeonggi Province have benefited from the 'Gyeonggi Climate Insurance' during the first 100 days since its nationwide first implementation by the province.
The Gyeonggi Climate Insurance is a policy for which Gyeonggi Province covers the entire premium, allowing all residents to receive benefits automatically without any separate procedures. The insurance provides fixed compensation for the following: diagnosis of heat-related or cold-related illnesses, diagnosis of infectious diseases, and lump-sum payments for injuries lasting more than four weeks due to weather advisories. The program began on April 11 and marked its 100th day of implementation on July 19.
During this period, Gyeonggi Province processed various cases, including outdoor workers who collapsed at construction sites, farmers who visited the emergency room after working in fields, elderly participants in senior employment programs who collapsed, and children who suffered from heat exhaustion during outdoor activities. Each of the 38 eligible beneficiaries received a payment of 100,000 won.
Additionally, 100,000 won was paid to each of 39 patients diagnosed with infectious diseases.
The Gyeonggi Climate Insurance also supports climate-vulnerable groups selected as beneficiaries of public health center home-visit health management programs by providing transportation expenses, transfer and return costs, and compensation for psychological damages.
During the first 100 days, the first case was recorded, with a resident in their 80s living in Seongnam receiving 20,000 won as 'medical institution transportation expenses.'
Gyeonggi Province plans to further simplify the claims process and introduce a mobile application system to enhance convenience.
Park Daekeun, Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The number of claims and inquiries is steadily increasing, establishing this as a policy that residents can truly feel. In particular, as the peak summer season begins, we will continue active publicity efforts to prevent damage from heat waves."
