This was a wise decision by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA).
On July 20 (local time), Scheffler secured a commanding four-stroke victory at the 153rd Open Championship (total prize money: $17 million), the final major tournament of the season, held at Royal Portrush Golf Club (par 71, 7,381 yards) in Portrush, Northern Ireland. This marked his fourth win of the PGA Tour season?following his victories at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, the PGA Championship major, and the Memorial Tournament in June?and the 17th win of his career. The winner’s prize was $3.1 million (approximately 4.3 billion KRW).

Scheffler made changes to his club setup to tackle the challenging Royal Portrush Golf Club. He equipped himself with different tools than he had used to win the PGA Championship earlier in the season. Instead of the TaylorMade Qi35 7-wood, he opted for the Srixon ZU85 3-iron. He stuck to a strategy of keeping the ball in the fairway by teeing off with a variety of clubs. He also created many birdie opportunities thanks to his precise iron shots.
Scheffler said, "Walking up the 18th hole after clinching the win was a feeling that’s hard to put into words," and added, "I am truly grateful to have achieved this." He continued, "To win, you need not only effort but also tremendous patience. You have to maintain high concentration for all 72 holes. Mentally, this was one of the best tournaments I have ever played."
