Kookmin University Finalizes Invalidation of First Lady Kim Keonhee's Doctoral Degree Yonhap News Agency

Kookmin University formally submitted the agenda for the cancellation of Kim's doctoral degree to the Graduate School of Techno Design's Operations Committee. After review and resolution by the Graduate School Committee, the university decided to invalidate both Kim's admission to the doctoral program and the conferral of her degree.

This decision was made because Kim no longer met the eligibility requirements for admission to the doctoral program as stipulated in Article 33, Paragraph 4 of the Higher Education Act, after the master's degree she submitted at the time of her doctoral admission was officially revoked by her alma mater.

Previously, Sookmyung Women's University, which had awarded Kim her master's degree, also revoked her master's degree from the Graduate School of Education on June 24 due to plagiarism in her thesis.

Kookmin University stated, "This action is based on the legal principle of 'automatic invalidity' due to the loss of admission eligibility following the revocation of the master's degree," adding, "We will do our utmost to uphold the trust and ethics of the academic community in accordance with laws and regulations."
