The Yeosu Citizens Welfare Forum announced on the 21st that it held the "10th Anniversary Ceremony of Delivering Samgyetang to Island Elders" at Hwajeong-myeon Office on the 18th.

This sharing event, organized to mark Chobok, involved delivering samgyetang to elderly residents of island regions. In addition, daily necessities were provided in connection with the "SSN Good Neighbors" project of the Yeosu Social Welfare Council.

This project, which began in 2016, has been operated with voluntary donations from Yeosu citizens. To date, a cumulative total of about 30,000 samgyetang chickens have been delivered to island residents. It is regarded as a rare example of a citizen-led welfare program in Korea.

Kim Youngsam, head of Hwajeong-myeon, said, "I am grateful for the donation of 30,000 samgyetang chickens made possible by the heartfelt contributions of citizens. Various ongoing activities, such as monthly hairdressing volunteer services, are also providing significant help to local residents. I hope that warm welfare services for elders in need of care will continue in the future."

Mayor Chung Kimyung also stated, "I deeply thank the talent volunteers of the Yeosu Citizens Welfare Forum who have continued welfare activities in island regions for 10 years. I also express my gratitude to the citizens of Yeosu who supported the samgyetang sharing, as well as to sponsor organizations such as the Yeosu branch of the National Health Insurance Service, Yeosu Gangnam Nursing Hospital, Yeocheon Nonghyup, and Yeocheon Saemaeul Geumgo. I hope this meaningful culture of sharing will spread widely and deeply throughout the local community."
