Over 3,000 Cases of Flood Damage Reported
Damage Exceeds Losses from Typhoon Khanun in 2023
Last week's heavy rainfall across the country resulted in damage to approximately 3,000 vehicles, with losses estimated at around 30 billion won.
According to the insurance industry on July 21, the estimated loss from vehicle damage between July 16 and 9 a.m. on this day totaled 29.613 billion won. A total of 3,131 cases of vehicle damage were reported.
This figure represents the combined damages reported to 12 non-life insurance companies currently selling auto insurance (Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, DB Insurance, Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, KB Insurance, Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance, Hanwha General Insurance, Lotte Insurance, MG Non-Life Insurance, Heungkuk Fire & Marine Insurance, AXA General Insurance, Hana Insurance, and Carrot General Insurance).
During the period of heavy rainfall and Typhoon Khanun from June to August 2023, only 2,395 cases of vehicle damage were reported, with losses amounting to 17.5 billion won. This time, the amount of damage has surpassed that figure in less than a week.
Meanwhile, from July 16 to 5 p.m. the previous day, the cumulative regional rainfall totals were 793.5 mm in Sancheong, 699.0 mm in Hapcheon, 621.5 mm in Hadong, 617.5 mm in Gwangyang, 600 mm in Changnyeong, 584.5 mm in Haman, and 578.3 mm in Seosan, among others.
