Boryeong City Invests 29.14 Billion Won to Tackle Low Birth Rate Head-On... Support for Paternity Leave Incentives and More

Promoting 93 Policies Covering Childbirth, Care, Education, and Healthcare
Including 11 New Initiatives

Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province has designated 'overcoming low birth rates' as a core municipal task and has launched a large-scale policy initiative.

On the 18th, the city announced that it held a meeting of the 'Low Birth Rate Emergency Response Team' in the city hall's main conference room, where it reviewed the policies being implemented this year and reported on 32 new policy initiatives planned for next year, checking the overall response strategy.

The Low Birth Rate Emergency Response Team is an organization composed of 19 working groups across eight sectors: childbirth, childrearing, care, education, healthcare, welfare, employment, and housing. It has been operating since October last year. The meeting was attended by more than 20 response team members, with policy advice provided by Dr. Kim Yonghyun from the Chungnam Institute.

This year, the city is allocating a total budget of 29.14 billion won to implement 93 policies aimed at overcoming low birth rates.

Among these are 21 existing initiatives, including: ▲support for community childcare for young parents, ▲construction of the Boryeong Student Swimming Pool, ▲operation of a toy library, and ▲expanded support for high-risk pregnancy examination costs.

For next year, 11 new policy initiatives have been newly reported, including: ▲support for paternity leave incentives, ▲introduction of an AI-based kindergarten education system, ▲operation of after-school study and care programs for elementary students during vacations, and ▲expanded postpartum care cost support for families with newborns.

The city especially plans to analyze and improve underperforming existing projects and to focus on advance preparations so that new initiatives can be implemented immediately upon securing the necessary budget.

Mayor Kim Dongil stated, "The low birth rate issue is a critically important challenge directly linked to the future sustainability of Boryeong City," and added, "We will do our utmost to create a city where it is good to have and raise children, and where parents can feel secure."
