Police Investigating Six Complaints Filed Against Kang Sunwoo, Including 'Hospital Power Abuse' Allegations

Police: "No Reports or Leads on Russian Sniper Rifle Assassination Rumors"

On July 21, police announced that a total of six complaints had been filed against Kang Sunwoo, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, and that investigations are underway.

During a regular press briefing that day, a representative from the National Police Agency stated, "Complaints have been filed with the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul, and procedures such as questioning the complainants are currently in progress."


Regarding allegations that the spouse of Jeong Eun-kyeong, nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare, holds stocks that benefited from COVID-19, police stated, "The case has been assigned to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul and an investigation is underway."


Concerning the case of Lee Junseok, a member of the Reform Party, who allegedly made sexually inappropriate remarks during a presidential election TV debate, police said, "A total of five complaints have been filed, and questioning of the complainants has been completed. Subsequent procedures will be carried out in accordance with relevant protocols."


Regarding the investigation into Moss Tan, a Korean-American professor who claimed that President Lee Jaemyung was involved in serious crimes during his childhood, police stated, "The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is conducting the investigation. We are currently verifying the authenticity of the statements and confirming contact information."


On the topic of rumors about an assassination attempt on President Lee Jaemyung with a Russian-made sniper rifle, police said, "No lawsuits, complaints, reports, or leads have been received regarding this matter." However, they added, "As of now, 34 cases related to online threats against the president have been reported. Of these, 13 cases have been referred to prosecutors, 5 cases have not been referred, and 4 cases have been closed before formal charges were filed."
