SK Bioscience Holds "2025 SKY Vision Symposium"

Academic Discussions Reflecting Clinical Realities

SK Bioscience announced on the 21st that it held the "2025 SKY Vision Symposium" at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, from July 19 to 20.

Now in its seventh year, the symposium invited around 100 primary care physicians specializing in internal medicine and pediatrics from across the country. The academic event served as a platform to share the latest information on infectious diseases and prevention strategies, as well as to exchange insights from the clinical field.

The attending physicians predicted that outbreaks of infectious diseases such as influenza and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) would continue during the 2025-2026 season. They emphasized the importance of proactive vaccination against these diseases.

Na Youngsook, director of Seohui Internal Medicine Clinic, said, "Since the beginning of this year, we have seen many patients with infectious respiratory diseases such as influenza, RSV, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and pertussis. Recently, with the heatwave weakening immunity, there has also been an increase in shingles cases. Preventing infection through vaccination is more effective for health management and cost efficiency than treating diseases after infection, so we strongly recommend vaccination."

Jung Sunhee, director of Samsung Kids Pediatrics Clinic, commented, "Given the recent surge in summer colds, I am concerned that respiratory illnesses such as influenza and COVID-19 may become widespread during the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Since infection control cannot be achieved solely through efforts at the clinical level, advance preparation by health authorities is also necessary."

The event also featured expert lectures and in-depth discussions based on the latest data, reflecting the needs of the clinical field. Lee Jungyong, president of the Korean Association of Internal Medicine, and Bae Soonho, president of the Korean Pediatric Association, served as moderators. Professors Lee Jaegap of Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Choi Wonseok of Korea University Ansan Hospital, Choi Suhan of Pusan National University Hospital, and Park Jiyoung of Korea University Ansan Hospital delivered keynote lectures introducing this year's key vaccination strategies.

Topics covered included: the rationale for recommending trivalent influenza vaccines and vaccination strategies for primary care physicians; vaccination guidelines for clinics, including shingles vaccines; the latest guidelines for pediatric vaccinations and their clinical application; age-specific vaccination strategies for infants through adolescents; and practical approaches for using Beyfortus in RSV prevention. These subjects were widely discussed as practical references for clinical practice.

President Lee Jungyong stated, "As the Vision Symposium marks its seventh year, I hope it has provided practical support for primary care physicians in responding to infectious diseases encountered in clinical practice, going beyond simple academic exchange. I look forward to the continued sharing of knowledge and experience, contributing to the improvement of public health."
