SK Innovation has launched an initiative to improve the reading environment for children in rural and fishing communities. The purpose is to provide emotional and educational support through books to children in these areas, who have limited access to libraries or large bookstores.
On the 21st, SK Innovation announced that it will carry out a citizen participation book donation campaign until the 30th of next month through the 'Children's Book Dream Project,' which is being promoted together with Kyobo Bookstore and Save the Children. This project is part of the 'Happiness Dream Library' initiative that SK Innovation has been pursuing since 2024.

In particular, this project is being conducted as a participatory donation campaign, where citizens can directly select and purchase books to donate. Participants can choose and pay for a book from a list of 100 recommended titles, selected by experts and children, either at the Kyobo Bookstore Gwanghwamun branch or on its website. The donated books will be placed in the 'Happiness Dream Libraries' established by SK Innovation at local children's centers in rural areas.
Additionally, Kyobo Bookstore will donate an equal number of books to match those donated by citizens. The donation list consists of a total of 100 books, including recommendations from children at local children's centers, books recommended by Jaeseung Jung, Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Save the Children ambassador, as well as curated selections from Kyobo Bookstore.
Last year, SK Innovation delivered approximately 8,000 books to 445 children at 15 local children's centers. This year, the company has expanded its support to 25 centers, reaching about 500 children. Cultural programs aimed at promoting a reading culture are also being operated, and in May, SK Innovation enhanced the professionalism and sustainability of the project through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Save the Children and Kyobo Bookstore.
Celebrity lectures are also being held to promote the project. On the 19th, author Kim Yoonna, known for her book 'Mother's Words Bowl,' gave a lecture for citizens at the Kyobo Building in Gwanghwamun. On August 30, Professor Jaeseung Jung is scheduled to give a special lecture titled 'Children, Exploring the World Through Reading' at the SK Seorin Building.
An SK Innovation representative stated, "This project is a meaningful initiative in which citizens can directly participate in improving the educational environment and supporting the growth of children in rural areas," adding, "We will continue to strengthen social solidarity among companies, citizens, and local communities, and take the lead in social contribution activities for future generations."
