The Korea Alpine Federation (President Cho Jwajin) announced that Lee Dohyun, a member of the Korean national sport climbing team, won his first-ever World Cup gold medal in the lead category at the '2025 IFSC Sport Climbing Comunidad de Madrid Lead World Cup,' which concluded in Madrid, Spain, in the early hours of July 20, Korea time.

In the qualification round, Lee Dohyun reached the 43+ and 39+ holds, placing seventh. In the semifinals, he reached the 45+ hold, finishing sixth. In the final, he recorded a 40+ hold, narrowly defeating Spain's Alberto Gines Lopez (40 points) to claim victory after a close contest.
Lee Dohyun said, "When I finished my climb in the final, I thought I would be around fourth or fifth place, so I couldn't believe it when I heard the news about the gold medal. I am truly happy," and added, "After the boulder season ended, I reflected on myself every day and thought about how I could climb better, including in lead, and worked hard. I feel like I have been rewarded for that effort today. I will do my best to achieve even better results in the remaining competitions and the upcoming Seoul World Championships."

In this competition, the results for Korean climbers in the men's lead category were: Lee Dohyun (1st), Noh Hyunseung (23rd), Kwon Kibeom (35th), and Kim Dohyun (58th). In the women's lead category, Seo Chaehyun (7th), Kim Jain (9th), Kim Chaeyoung (20th), and Kim Juha (tied for 33rd) recorded their respective placements.
The national sport climbing speed team is preparing to compete in the '2025 Chengdu World Games' from August 14 to 16, while the lead team is scheduled to participate in the Lead World Cup in Koper, Slovenia, from September 5 to 6.
Afterward, the team will begin full-scale preparations for the '2025 IFSC Seoul Sport Climbing & Paraclimbing World Championships,' which will be held in Seoul from September 20 to 28.
