Songpa-gu to Hold Children's "Survival Swimming Education" with Korea Coast Guard

Songpa-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Gangseok) will operate a "Survival Swimming Education" program in cooperation with the Korea Coast Guard at the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center from August 4 to 14.

Since 2012, the district has provided summer water safety education every year to strengthen children's ability to respond to water-related emergencies. Starting in 2023, the program has enhanced its effectiveness through collaboration with the Korea Coast Guard. Last year, it received a positive response, with 491 participants from 16 organizations.

In particular, members of the Special Response Unit of the West Sea Five Islands Special Guard Division of the Korea Coast Guard will participate as instructors in teams of two, providing practical guidance on how to respond safely in real-life emergency situations.

The main curriculum includes water safety rules, proper life jacket usage, body posture for maintaining temperature in water, survival swimming techniques such as "shrimp-back floating" and "leaf floating," and emergency rescue methods for drowning victims.

Additionally, a temporary pool measuring 10 meters by 10 meters with a depth of 0.65 meters will be installed at the outdoor training area of the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center to simulate a real water play environment. Life jackets, an open shower, and changing rooms will also be provided to enhance both safety and convenience at the training site.

The program is open to children aged 7 and elementary school students. Classes will be held three times a day at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., with each session lasting 90 minutes. Group registration will begin on July 21, and individual registration will open on July 28 through the Songpa Safety Experience Education Center website. All classes are free of charge.
