Free Animal Registration Tags Also Provided

Yangcheon District in Seoul (Mayor Lee Gijae) is offering various benefits to residents who adopt abandoned animals, including adoption fee support and free animal registration tags.

The district's "Support Program for Residents Adopting Abandoned Animals" was established to encourage the registration and protection of adopted animals, as well as to promote a culture of responsible pet ownership.

Yangcheon District Offers Up to 150,000 Won Support for Residents Adopting Abandoned Animals Yangcheon District Mayor Lee Gijae is greeting families with pets. Provided by Yangcheon District.

The program is available to Yangcheon District residents who adopt abandoned animals through the district's animal protection center (Ganghyeonrim General Animal Hospital, 160 Deungchon-ro). The adoption fee support is up to 150,000 won per animal and can be used for disease diagnosis, vaccinations, medical treatment, neutering surgery, microchip registration, grooming, and pet insurance enrollment.

Starting this year, "socialization education and training expenses" have been newly added to the list of eligible items, making it possible to provide practical support for stabilizing animal behavior and helping pets adapt to society.

The animal registration tags provided free of charge to adopters include the animal's name, registration number, and owner's contact information. These tags are effective in preventing the loss of pets and are expected to help establish a culture of responsible ownership even after adoption.

In addition, pet owners are required by the Animal Protection Act to attach animal registration tags. Violation of this requirement results in fines of 50,000 won for the first offense, 100,000 won for the second, and up to 200,000 won for the third, so the free tag support program helps adopters comply with their legal obligations.

To apply, residents simply need to submit a brief application form at the animal protection center at the time of adoption. Retroactive applications are also accepted if less than one year has passed since adoption.

In addition, the district is introducing customized support policies to help pet-owning households feel secure, such as "Our Neighborhood Pet Care Center" for caring for pets of vulnerable groups during long absences, and support for essential veterinary expenses for seniors and vulnerable residents.

Mayor Lee Gijae stated, "Adopting a life is a warm-hearted choice, but it also comes with responsibility," and added, "Yangcheon District will continue to create a city where people and pets can live happily together through various policies that encourage the protection and adoption of abandoned animals."
