"Jeon Hangil's Admission Will Lead to a Party Incapable of Governing" Ahn Cheolsoo's Stern Criticism

Pressure on Song Eonseok's Emergency Response Committee
"Protecting Extremist Forces Leads to the Path of Hellfire"

Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, has publicly opposed the admission of former Korean history instructor Jeon Hangil, who has defended former President Yoon Sukyeol and promoted claims of election fraud, and has called for strong measures in response.

On July 18, Ahn stated on his Facebook page, "The Emergency Response Committee led by Song Eonseok must urgently convene the Ethics Committee and initiate the procedure to recommend Jeon Hangil's withdrawal from the party." He made it clear that party leadership must respond swiftly.

In particular, he strongly criticized the reemergence of former President Yoon and the activities of Jeon, labeling them as "acts detrimental to the party." Ahn said, "'Acts detrimental to the party' are nothing else but reinstating former President Yoon Sukyeol and sheltering extremist forces." He warned, "'Yoon-taekhan gil' and 'Jeon Hangil' will ultimately drive us to the brink of hellfire, leading to our downfall as a party incapable of governing."

He went on to say, "If the Emergency Response Committee remains silent and passive regarding Jeon Hangil's admission, that itself constitutes an 'organized act detrimental to the party' and an act of self-harm at the committee level," once again urging the leadership to make a decision.

Regarding Jeon Hangil, Ahn added, "He can never be the path for our party," and emphasized, "We must become a mass party, a nationwide party. I reiterate that the path we must take is the path of innovation, reform, and victory."

Jeon joined the People Power Party online on June 9. He signed up under his legal name, Jeon Yugwan, so his admission was not initially known, but he revealed his party membership when he attended a National Assembly forum on June 14. He stated, "I am making this official. I, too, have joined the People Power Party," and clarified, "Some may ask if Jeon Hangil is running for the National Assembly, but that is not the case." He added, "I will not run for any elected office. I will only support the conservative right to succeed."
