At approximately 8:40 p.m. on July 17, when pedestrian activity was low due to heavy rainfall, a missing person report was filed stating, "My husband has not come home." His whereabouts remain unknown as of July 19. Police and fire authorities have been making efforts to locate the missing man, Mr. A, but so far, their search has yielded no results.
The police have been analyzing surveillance camera (CCTV) footage to trace the movements of Mr. A, who is in his 40s. During this process, they captured his last known appearance at around 1:50 a.m. on July 17, which is 19 hours before the report was filed, and have since expanded the search area. CCTV footage reviewed to determine Mr. A's movements reportedly shows him descending a hill to access the Jecheon riverside trail near Dajeonggyo Bridge in Naseong-dong, Sejong City, and being swept away by water.
It has been reported that prior to the incident, Mr. A had attended a company dinner with colleagues nearby. At the time, a heavy rain warning was in effect and access to the riverside had been blocked. However, it appears that Mr. A entered the riverside area via the embankment, rather than through the blocked access point.
Police and fire authorities have been expanding the search area, starting from the point where Mr. A was swept away, deploying a helicopter, drones, and approximately 50 personnel in their efforts.
