National Police Agency Holds Kick-off Meeting for Field-Oriented Public Safety R&D Projects

Police Lab is a compound word combining "Police," meaning public security, and "Living-Lab." It refers to a research project in which citizens, public institutions (the police and the Ministry of Science and ICT), and researchers collaborate to identify, study, and validate issues in the field of public safety.

This year, research will begin on three projects selected through preliminary verification studies: an artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic accident analysis system, AI-based 3D reconstruction technology for crime scenes, and lightweight hybrid protective equipment for stab and cut resistance, specifically designed to protect the face and neck.

An official from the National Police Agency stated, "We will do our utmost to efficiently apply rapidly advancing technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to the field of public safety in order to ensure the safety of citizens and to help foster the domestic public safety industry ecosystem."
