Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province is making all-out efforts to restore areas damaged by the heavy rainfall that occurred on July 17.

According to the city on the 18th, torrential rains of 248.5mm in Hwangjeon-myeon and 120mm in the downtown area resulted in widespread road flooding and damage to farmland.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu personally visited the flood warning areas at Hwangjeoncheon Yongseogyo and the Hoeryongcheon river embankment washout sites to closely inspect the damage situation. At the site, Mayor Noh stated, "We will prioritize emergency restoration of the affected areas and minimize inconvenience to residents through comprehensive recovery efforts going forward."

The city also thoroughly implemented preemptive measures in preparation for this heavy rainfall. Since last month, it has completed inspections and dredging of 30,000 rainwater catch basins, 3,000 storm manholes, and 129 kilometers of stormwater pipelines, and attached location stickers to 374 areas prone to frequent flooding as part of its comprehensive disaster preparedness efforts.

In addition, the city established a close cooperation system with autonomous disaster prevention teams in towns, townships, and neighborhoods to guide residents in risk areas to evacuate in advance and quickly provided emergency relief supplies. Alongside these efforts, the city has been operating the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters around the clock to maintain an emergency response posture.
