Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) announced on July 18 that it will officially begin construction of the Hongneung R&D Support Center, which is being promoted as part of the 'Hongneung Urban Regeneration Activation Plan'.
The Hongneung R&D Support Center, which SH is developing on behalf of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, serves as the catalyst project for the Hongneung Urban Regeneration New Deal initiative. SH completed the construction commencement notification process in Dongdaemun-gu on July 16, 2025, and aims to complete the center by 2027.
The Hongneung R&D Support Center will have a total floor area of 2,110.7 square meters, consisting of two underground floors and three above-ground floors. It will be equipped with comprehensive facilities to support startups. The underground levels will house laboratories for quantum technology support, while the above-ground floors will include shared spaces such as meeting rooms, lounges, a cafeteria, and a cafe, as well as rental spaces for startup companies and spaces for large corporations and investors.
In addition to the Hongneung R&D Support Center, SH is also promoting the 'Hongneung Startup Lab' and the 'Advanced Medical Device·Bio Health Center' as part of the Hongneung Urban Regeneration New Deal. Through these key facilities, SH plans to establish the Hongneung area as a hub for the bio and medical industries.
Hwang Sangha, President of SH, stated, "Hongneung is an area with a high concentration of universities and research institutes, offering significant potential for the growth of startups and venture companies." He added, "With the construction of the Hongneung R&D Support Center, we aim to invigorate the startup ecosystem and lay the foundation for the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, such as quantum technology research."
