Han Gil Jeon, a former Korean history instructor who recently joined the People Power Party and hinted at running for the Supreme Council, raised his voice at a rally urging the release of former President Yoon Seokyeol, saying, "Let's elect a candidate who supports President Yoon as the party leader."

On the 18th, about 200 supporters, including Han Gil Jeon, gathered in front of the Law Court Samgeori in Seocho-dong, Seoul, for a rally calling for the release of former President Yoon Seokyeol. Waving the Taegeukgi and the Stars and Stripes, they chanted slogans such as "Release President Yoon Seokyeol."

At the rally, Han Gil Jeon also delivered a speech for about an hour. He said, "Han Donghoon and Kim Yongtae are saying to get Han Gil Jeon out quickly, but who is the real leader of the conservative right?Han Donghoon or Han Gil Jeon? We must take control of the People Power Party. Tens of thousands of party members should unite and elect a candidate who supports President Yoon Seokyeol as the party leader."

He also became emotional as he recalled that former President Yoon called him after completing two rounds of special prosecutor investigations just before his detention and said, "Thank you."

Meanwhile, at around 10:15 a.m. on the same day, the detention legality review hearing for former President Yoon Seokyeol began. The detention legality review is a procedure in which the court examines whether the suspect's detention is lawful and whether continued detention is necessary, releasing the individual if it is found to be unlawful or unjustified.

Yoon's legal team is expected to argue, first, that this constitutes de facto "double detention," and second, that there have been changes in circumstances since the initial detention. Their position is that the charges listed in the detention warrant are already being prosecuted in an ongoing trial for insurrection, making it impossible to detain him again for the same charges.

They are also expected to repeatedly emphasize that, as a former president, there is no risk of flight, and that the likelihood of him destroying evidence by contacting others who are currently detained or under investigation is minimal.
