Effectiveness in Promoting Consumption and Strengthening Self-Sufficiency
Sinan County in South Jeolla Province has designated five alley-type shopping districts simultaneously as part of efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of local commercial areas and revitalize the regional economy.
On July 18, Sinan County announced that it had designated 94 stores in five areas?including the vicinity of Daegwang Beach, the center of Aphae-eup, Guyeong-gil in Jaeun-myeon, Songdo Seafood Market in Jido-eup, and Jido Salted Seafood Town?as alley-type shopping districts. All of the designated districts will now accept Onnuri gift certificates, which is expected to help stimulate consumption.
In April, the county reached an agreement with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to ease the designation requirements from the previous standard of "at least 20 stores within 2,000 square meters" to "at least 10 stores." This regulatory change made the simultaneous designation possible. As a result, even small-scale alley commercial areas can now receive institutional support through government and local government public projects.
Stores designated as alley-type shopping districts can not only register as Onnuri gift certificate affiliates, but also participate in various support projects and commercial district revitalization programs, enjoying a wide range of benefits. The county expects that these measures will provide tangible support for increasing sales among local small business owners and strengthening the competitiveness of alley commercial areas.
A county official stated, "This designation will further enhance the self-sufficiency and competitiveness of local alley commercial districts," adding, "We will work to create a vibrant local commercial environment that both residents and tourists can truly experience." The official also said, "We will continue to discover and foster alley-type shopping districts to further accelerate the revitalization of the regional economy."
