Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province is taking swift steps to improve living conditions as it responds to the ongoing population decline and the threat of local extinction.
To create homes where people can settle, Yeongyang County has established a variety of residential complexes that can accommodate a total of 180 households. These include Ondanchae (40 households), LH public rental housing (110 households), a stay-type rural village (10 households), and a settlement-type small farm village currently under development (20 households).
Additionally, to ensure energy welfare for residents, the county has supported the installation of renewable energy facilities at 687 sites in the southern areas of Ippam, Cheonggi, and Seokbo, and during the 8th popularly elected administration, it supported installations at 728 sites in the northern region. Next year, the county plans to continue supporting the installation of renewable energy facilities in the southern region.
After supplying LPG pipeline networks to about 2,300 households in Yeongyang-eup in 2020, the county further expanded this by providing LPG pipeline networks to 568 households at the township and village levels, helping to alleviate residents' heating costs.
In particular, to create an environment where people can marry and raise children with peace of mind, the county has increased the marriage incentive from a maximum of 5 million won to a maximum of 21 million won, more than quadrupling the amount. The childbirth incentive has also been doubled: from 100,000 won to 200,000 won for the first child, from 150,000 won to 300,000 won for the second child, and from 200,000 won to 400,000 won for the third child and beyond.
County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "We have laid the foundation to make Yeongyang County a place where people want to live," and added, "We will continue to develop a variety of projects to create a happy Yeongyang County for our residents and will do our utmost to ensure resident satisfaction."
