From Reading Classes to Overnight Camp Programs
On July 18, the Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation, under the Yeongdeungpo District Office (headed by Mayor Choi Hokwon) in Seoul, announced that it is running the "Yeongdeungpo Library is Cool" program for children and teenagers in the district during the summer vacation.
This summer vacation program consists of a total of 13 classes, including reading classes, lectures, and hands-on activities. Major classes at each library include "We Are All Docents" at Daerim Library, "Vivid Nature Exploration Team" at Mullae Library, "Reading Books with Your Ears? Writing with Your Voice?" at Seonyu Library, "Yeouisaetgang Experimental Table" at Yeouisaetgang Library, "Thinking Factory Detective Team: Uncover the Secrets of Reading Comprehension!" at Thinking Factory Library, "Into Civilization! World History Exploration Team" at Wonji Park Library, and "Playground of Stories in Books" at Jorongbak Small Library.
These programs are conducted in a variety of ways, including reading, discussion, experiments, and historical exploration, to broaden students' reading experiences and provide them with new opportunities.
In addition to reading classes, there are various programs such as creative activities, cooking, picture books, meetings with authors, and logo song production. Seonyu Library will host a two-day, one-night overnight library camp called "Nolda Man Geo Noneun Bam," while Wonji Park Library will offer "Bingsuya Nolja!" and Jorongbak Small Library will run the "Spring, Spring, Spring Project" and "Travel the World with Books."
In particular, the overnight camp program at Seonyu Library, which targets teenagers aged 12 to 16, received an enthusiastic response when it was first held last year and will be organized around a "horror" theme again this year.
Detailed schedules and information for each program can be found in the announcements section of each library's website, and registration is available through the "Program Application" menu on the Yeongdeungpo District Library website.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, said, "I hope students will have a meaningful summer vacation at libraries where books and hands-on experiences come together," adding, "We will continue to expand educational and cultural programs that allow children to learn and grow with joy."
