The Financial Supervisory Service announced on July 18 that it immediately launched an on-site inspection upon recognizing the ransomware breach at SGI Seoul Guarantee on July 14, and is prioritizing the full normalization of the company's operations.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service, SGI Seoul Guarantee has now restored its core IT systems and resumed the issuance of guarantee certificates starting at 10:00 a.m. on the previous day.
The Financial Supervisory Service explained that it is working closely with the Financial Security Institute, the incident response agency, to analyze the cause of the breach and support the recovery of IT systems. At the same time, it is checking the status of consumer damages with SGI Seoul Guarantee and cooperating closely to ensure the prompt resumption of services.
In addition, to prevent the spread of similar breaches, the Financial Supervisory Service urgently disseminated precautionary measures across the entire financial sector. An official from the Financial Supervisory Service emphasized, "As soon as the cause of this incident is identified, we plan to consult with the financial sector and establish comprehensive response measures against new types of cyber threats and IT disruptions."
