This academic conference was organized by the Yoo Ilhan Archive Research Team of the Institute of Ethnic Culture to mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's liberation, with support from the Yoo Ilhan Memorial Research Foundation.


The conference was planned to summarize the results of the one-year research project conducted by the Yoo Ilhan Archive Research Team and to shed light on the life and independence movement of Dr. Yoo Ilhan from various perspectives based on these findings.


The academic conference, held on the 11th at the Jihoon Conference Room of the Institute of Ethnic Culture at Korea University, was attended by researchers in the fields of independence movement history, medical history, and Korean American studies both from Korea and abroad, as well as board members and officials from the Yoo Ilhan Memorial Research Foundation.


A total of four presentations were delivered at the conference. In the first presentation, Kim Dohyung, former senior researcher at the Korea Independence Movement History Research Institute, highlighted Yoo Ilhan's role at the First Korean Congress.


In the second presentation, Kim Youngsoo, associate research professor in the Department of Medical History at Yonsei University, analyzed how Yuhan Corporation, founded by Yoo Ilhan, went beyond being a pharmaceutical company to become a national enterprise that substantially supported the health rights of Koreans.


In the third presentation, Yoon Jongmoon, researcher at the Sogang University Transnational History Research Institute, examined Yoo Ilhan's studies in the United States and his plans for Korea's reconstruction by dividing them into different periods and analyzing his perception of the times and practical strategies.


In the fourth presentation, Jung Byungjoon, professor in the Department of History at Ewha Womans University, re-examined the fact that during the Pacific War, Yoo Ilhan participated in the NAPKO operation of the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which aimed to infiltrate the Korean Peninsula.


During the comprehensive discussion that followed the presentations, Kim Dohun, research professor at Korea National University of Education and member of the Yoo Ilhan Archive Research Team, Joo Dongbin, professor at Korea University of Technology and Education, and the presenters engaged in an in-depth discussion on Yoo Ilhan's activities in the contexts of politics, economy, medicine, and immigration history.
