Gangdong District Achieves Budget Savings and Quality Improvement One Year After Establishing Architectural Facilities Team

Gangdong District in Seoul (Mayor Soohee Lee) announced on July 18 that the Architectural Facilities Team, established in July last year within the Architecture Division to enhance expertise in electrical, communications, fire safety, and mechanical construction, has achieved significant results over the past year, including budget savings, improved construction quality, and increased administrative efficiency.

The Architectural Facilities Team has systematically and safely managed various architectural facility projects, greatly reducing the burden on administrative departments that previously lacked experience in construction supervision and technical knowledge, particularly in areas such as budget planning, reviewing project statements, and on-site management.

Previously, the Architecture Division only supervised projects with construction costs of 300 million won or more. However, after the establishment of the team, the standard was relaxed, allowing direct supervision of all projects costing 20 million won or more.

In particular, by conducting thorough reviews during the design phase to set appropriate budgets, minimizing design changes, and preventing unnecessary construction, the team achieved annual budget savings of about 100 million won. Shortened construction periods and rigorous construction management minimized defects, which in turn increased both resident safety and satisfaction. In addition, strengthened technical support for administrative departments has further solidified the division of labor and collaboration between administrative and technical tasks.

Soohee Lee, Mayor of Gangdong District, stated, "The visible achievements within just one year of establishing the Architectural Facilities Team are thanks to the introduction of a system of specialization and responsible management in construction administration. We will continue to closely oversee even small-scale projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficient budget execution to provide residents with administration they can trust."
