Seocho District in Seoul (District Mayor Seongsoo Jeon) announced on the 18th that it has been selected as the "Best Institution" after ranking first nationwide in the "Fiscal Competitiveness" category among autonomous districts in the "30 Years of Local Autonomy Regional Competitiveness Assessment," organized by the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy.

Seocho District Ranks First Nationwide in "Fiscal Competitiveness" in 30 Years of Local Autonomy Regional Competitiveness Assessment Seongsoo Jeon, Seocho District Mayor. Provided by Seocho District Office.

The "Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index" is an annual assessment that has comprehensively evaluated the administrative performance and development capacity of local governments across the country since 1996. This year's assessment analyzed 53 indicators in 10-year intervals over the 30 years from 1995 to this year, measuring the competitiveness of 226 local governments nationwide in five key areas: population, finance, regional economy, health and culture, and environment and safety.

Seocho District received excellent evaluations in all detailed fiscal management indicators, including fiscal scale (total expenditure per capita, total expenditure growth rate), balanced finance (formal balance ratio), autonomous finance (fiscal independence, fiscal self-reliance), and fiscal operation (ratio of non-tax revenue, ratio of subsidy revenue, per capita social development and economic development expenditure). As a result, the district was recognized as having the highest level of fiscal competitiveness among all autonomous districts nationwide.

In particular, this year's assessment was based on data accumulated over the 30 years marking the 30th anniversary of local autonomy, highlighting Seocho District's steady growth and development capacity. In addition to ranking first in fiscal competitiveness, Seocho District also demonstrated excellence by ranking sixth in "population competitiveness" and fifth in "health and culture competitiveness" among various indicators.

Seongsoo Jeon, Mayor of Seocho District, said, "It is deeply meaningful to be selected as the best institution in 'fiscal competitiveness' among all autonomous districts nationwide at this point, marking the 30th anniversary of local autonomy. We will continue to strengthen the city's sustainable competitiveness based on fiscal efficiency and responsibility."
