President Lee Thanks National Assembly Speaker for Smooth Handling of Personnel and Budget Matters Yonhap News

President Lee Jaemyung expressed his gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik for the smooth handling of the budget bill.


On July 17, President Lee held a dinner meeting at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with Speaker Woo, Prime Minister Kim Minseok, and Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hunsik. This meeting was held in commemoration of the 77th Constitution Day.


President Lee said, "I am relieved that, thanks to your outstanding leadership, the National Assembly is proceeding smoothly despite a very complex situation. From the administration's perspective, I am grateful that the National Assembly has handled personnel and budget matters so quickly and efficiently."


President Lee continued, "Today is especially Constitution Day. I believe it holds special significance," adding, "We will do our best to support the National Assembly."


Speaker Woo responded, "On this day that reminds us of the values of the Constitution, I find it very meaningful that the President has invited the representative of the legislative branch. It has been a month and a half since the new government was launched, and I am pleased to see that, thanks to your diligent efforts, obstacles are gradually being resolved."


Speaker Woo also emphasized, "One of the most important responsibilities of the state is to protect the lives and safety of the people. I would like to stress that the government and the National Assembly must work together and do their utmost to prevent any harm to the public."


During the conversation, Speaker Woo told President Lee, "We are in the same group." When President Lee asked what he meant, Speaker Woo replied, "We are field-oriented," and added, "I have observed that you make efforts to listen directly to the voices of the people, visit the field, and pay close attention to the lives of the citizens."
