Court: "The nature of the crime is poor and the degree of guilt is severe"
A man in his 20s has been sentenced to a heavy prison term for luring a woman under the pretense of hiring a caregiver, then kidnapping, confining, and raping her.
On July 17, the Criminal Division 1 of Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Guksik, sentenced the defendant, Mr. Ahn (22), who was indicted on charges including kidnapping, confinement, and rape, to 10 years in prison. The court also ordered him to complete 80 hours of a sexual violence treatment program, prohibited him from working at institutions related to children, adolescents, or the disabled for 10 years, and mandated the disclosure of his personal information.
The court stated, "The defendant searched for a victim through a secondhand trading application (app), lured the victim, and committed the crime over a period of two nights and three days. He meticulously planned the crime by preparing tools and a location in advance and carried it out using bold methods."
The court continued, "Considering the motive, process, and method of the crime, the defendant's conduct was of a particularly poor nature and the degree of guilt is severe. The victim suffered significant shock and pain, and has petitioned for a heavy punishment for the defendant. Taking into account that the defendant has admitted to the crime, these factors were considered in determining the sentence."
Mr. Ahn was arrested and indicted on charges of kidnapping a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, in Seoul between January 9 and 11, and then confining and raping her at a pension in the Gapyeong area.
According to the investigation, Mr. Ahn lured Ms. A by posting a message on a secondhand trading app claiming to be looking for a caregiver for a girl with lower body paralysis, offering 600,000 won per case; however, all of this was found to be false. Mr. Ahn realized that an acquaintance who had been communicating with him had reported the matter to the police by calling 112, and while attempting to escape with Ms. A in his car, he was apprehended by the police who were in pursuit.
