Supercar Hillclimb Parade Celebrates
40th Anniversary of P Zero and Launch of Fifth-Generation Tire
Pirelli announced that it celebrated the opening of the '2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed' by presenting a hillclimb parade featuring supercars with a combined output of over 10,000 horsepower, commemorating the launch of the fifth-generation P Zero tire.
This event also marked the 40th anniversary of the P Zero, which has established itself as Pirelli's flagship tire since its initial debut in 1985, pioneering the ultra-high performance (UHP) tire segment. Over the decades, the P Zero has been fitted to many leading models in the global automotive market, with more than 3,000 tailor-made versions developed for specific vehicles.
All of Pirelli's innovations are based on continuous technological advancement, with the aim of delivering high performance and safety to users.
The vehicles selected for the Goodwood Hillclimb, the highlight of the 'Goodwood Festival of Speed,' underwent a special selection process to showcase the characteristics of the Pirelli P Zero. Leading the parade was the Ferrari F40, which was equipped with the first-generation P Zero at its launch in 1987. Following it was the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, which had been fitted with the iconic 'Zero' version tire two years earlier. This tire is notable for its unique tread pattern, combining slick, intermediate, and wet profiles, mirroring the design used in motorsports.
The third car was the Lamborghini Urus SE, the first model to be equipped with the new fifth-generation P Zero. Representing the new era of electric hypercars, the Lotus Evija, known as one of the most powerful production vehicles, participated with the 'P Zero Trofeo R.' This tire features the 'Elect' certification mark, indicating that it has been specially designed by Pirelli for BEV and PHEV vehicles.
The McLaren Artura and Pagani Utopia Roadster are the first vehicles to come standard with the Pirelli Cyber Tire system. The Pirelli Cyber Tire system collects real-time data from sensors inside the tire, processes it through proprietary algorithms, and communicates with the vehicle's electronic systems, serving as the only integrated hardware and software solution of its kind. This enables a level of functionality previously unattainable.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS, equipped with the P Zero R tire, has been praised for exemplifying the balance between performance, safety, and versatility that defines the P Zero lineup. At the same time, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, a V12 convertible grand tourer, symbolizes the pure joy of driving. In addition, the BMW Vision Driving Experience was showcased on BMW's next-generation concept car, representing the future of mobility.
The finale of the 10,000-horsepower parade was a Formula 1 car fitted with 18-inch P Zero tires. This underscores the continuous evolution of the P Zero from its launch to the present, symbolizing technological progress and the connection between road and track.
P Zero's innovations also extend to efforts to create an environmentally friendly ecosystem. During the 'Goodwood Festival of Speed,' Pirelli and JLR unveiled the world's first mass-produced tire made with over 70% bio-based and recycled materials. This tire includes FSC™-certified natural rubber and has been specially developed as a P Zero tire for specific 22-inch wheel options on the Range Rover.
Currently, P Zero serves as a brand that bridges the gap between motorsport racetracks and everyday roads, tailored to a wide range of models from premium and prestige automakers worldwide. In fact, more than 50% of models available in the prestige segment are equipped with Pirelli P Zero tires.
The main products in the P Zero lineup include the fifth-generation P Zero, designed to deliver high performance and safety for top-tier vehicles; the P Zero E, which uses more than 55% natural and recycled materials to promote eco-friendly mobility and has received a triple-A rating on the EU tire label; the P Zero R, which maximizes sporty performance and driving pleasure for high-performance cars and SUVs; the P Zero Trofeo RS, suitable for both track and road use; and the P Zero Winter 2, designed for drivers seeking top performance and safety even in winter conditions.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the P Zero, Pirelli has reproduced a limited edition of 40 sets of the original tire first released in 1985. This event, along with other classic P Zero models, is now part of the Pirelli Collezione lineup. Collezione is a tire range for legendary vintage and modern classic cars, characterized by maintaining the original design while incorporating modern materials and technology. This allows users to preserve the original sporty character of their vehicles while enhancing safety.
