The 2025 supplementary budget proposal for the Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education Special Account, in which the entire budget for the Future Education District was cut, has passed the plenary session of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council.
On the afternoon of July 17, the provincial council held the second plenary session of its 425th extraordinary meeting and put to a vote the revised supplementary budget proposal reviewed by the Education Office's Budget and Accounts Committee.

The revised budget proposal from the Budget and Accounts Committee was approved with 44 votes in favor, 4 against, and 2 abstentions out of 50 members present.
Previously, the Budget and Accounts Committee had submitted to the plenary session a budget proposal that cut the entire 3,287 million won allocated for the Future Education District and included only 700 million won for the Art Instructor Support Project, reducing the total budget by 6.3 billion won.
Initially, the Gyeongnam Office of Education had submitted to the provincial council the first supplementary budget proposal for 2025, totaling 7,160.7 billion won, an increase of 357 billion won, or 5.2%, compared to this year's original budget of 6,803.7 billion won.
On the revenue side, the supplementary budget increased by a total of 357 billion won, including 222.1 billion won from central government transfers, 16.5 billion won from local government and other transfers, 23.9 billion won from self-generated revenue, and 94.5 billion won from net surplus and other sources.
On the expenditure side, the budget increased by 49.7 billion won for personnel expenses, 105.6 billion won for educational project expenses, 224.7 billion won for facility project expenses, and 1.8 billion won for contingency and other expenses, while reducing 24.8 billion won in operating expenses and internal reserves.
