Union Biometrics announced on July 17 that it has been granted a US patent for a "biometric authentication method that enhances security by encrypting fragments of biometric information templates."
This patent covers a technology that divides biometric information templates into multiple fragments and manages them by periodically encrypting each fragment. Unlike conventional biometric authentication systems, even if biometric data is leaked due to hacking or other incidents, the data is fragmented, making it impossible to restore the original information. Applying this patented technology to biometric recognition-based systems and services can significantly enhance security.
This patent is the result of a national research and development project supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, titled "Development of an Integrated Platform Operating System for Physical Security in Non-face-to-face Services." Through this project, Union Biometrics, in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), developed smart building physical security integrated platform technology.
The patented technology acquired this time is a proprietary development related to biometric information security. The company plans to apply it to mobile authentication services, access control systems, and financial security solutions to strengthen its competitiveness in the biometric security market. In addition, it intends to utilize this technology to target the global biometric recognition market, including the United States, where security capabilities are highly valued.
A representative from Union Biometrics stated, "We believe that our distributed management technology for biometric information is an innovative solution that addresses the security vulnerabilities of existing biometric authentication. We will continue to lead the market with safe and reliable biometric authentication systems and solutions by strengthening our ongoing research and development efforts."
