This designation is part of the 'Regulatory Science Professional Training Project' being promoted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. With this designation, the center will operate regulatory science education programs necessary for food and drug safety, quality control, licensing, and regulatory compliance.

In the fields of pharmaceuticals and vaccines, the center is one of only two institutions nationwide to receive this designation, along with the 'Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center' in Hwasun, Jeonnam.

The center, which opened on July 7 at the Seoul National University Siheung Campus, was established through the joint cooperation of Seoul National University, Gyeonggi Province, and Siheung City. The center has a total area of 1,477 square meters and is equipped with advanced educational facilities, including a practice lab that meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, a virtual reality (VR) training room, and theoretical lecture rooms. The center plans to train 1,500 professionals annually through specialized, industry-driven training courses in areas such as antibody processing, cell and gene therapy products, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based pharmaceutical quality control.

With this designation, the center is especially expected to make a significant contribution to alleviating workforce shortages and strengthening regulatory response capabilities in the pharmaceutical and bio sectors by providing practical, industry-focused training that reflects the needs of the field.

Siheung City Mayor Lim Byeongtaek stated, "With this designation, we will foster the center as a key institution for strengthening the competitiveness of the bio industry by nurturing professionals equipped with both technological expertise and regulatory response capabilities."
