On July 17, the Changwon Fire Department in Gyeongnam selected five paramedics who saved citizens' lives through outstanding emergency care at the scene as recipients of the Heart Saver and Brain Saver awards.
The Saver Award is a system that evaluates field activities every half-year and is given to paramedics who contribute to patient survival by providing prompt and appropriate emergency care to patients suffering from cardiac arrest, stroke, or severe trauma.
The Heart Saver award is given to those who save lives by performing rapid CPR and other treatments for cardiac arrest patients. The Brain Saver award is given to those who minimize aftereffects for acute stroke patients by providing appropriate emergency care and rapid hospital transport within the golden hour. The Trauma Saver award is given to those who contribute to the survival of severe trauma patients through appropriate treatment and swift transport. Each award is presented to recipients according to these criteria.
This year, for the first half, Fire Sergeant Jeong Mingoo, Firefighter Choi Yeryeong, and Firefighter Cheon Myeonggeun were selected for the Heart Saver category, while Fire Lieutenant Kim Garam and Firefighter Lee Hyeonyong were chosen for the Brain Saver category. Each paramedic made significant contributions to protecting precious lives through rapid response, professional emergency care, and close teamwork.
The paramedics stated, "Protecting citizens' lives in the field is the natural duty of a paramedic," and added, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure safety in our roles."
Changwon Fire Department Chief Lee Sangi said, "The dedication and expertise of our paramedics are protecting the precious lives of citizens," and added, "We will continue to strengthen paramedics' capabilities, expand advanced equipment, and provide systematic training to deliver high-quality emergency medical services."
