10 Consecutive Years of Top and Excellent Institution Performance with S Grade in 2024
Integrity and Transparent Management, A New Vision for the Leading Science Museum in the Southeastern Region
The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Samjong) received the highest grade, "Excellent (S)," in the "2024 Public Institution Management Performance Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT. With this achievement, the museum became the only national science museum foundation to receive the S grade for three consecutive years.
The management performance evaluation is a system that comprehensively assesses an institution's management performance and creation of social value. Since its opening, the National Busan Science Museum has received the S grade six times and the A grade four times, earning recognition as an excellent or outstanding institution for ten consecutive years.
The museum received high marks in all areas, including leadership, ethical management, collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutions, and improvement in visitor satisfaction. The virtuous cycle structure of attracting private funding through the support association and returning it to the local community was highlighted as an exemplary case.
In addition to the public institution evaluation, the museum has achieved numerous external accomplishments. For the past five consecutive years, it has been selected as an outstanding institution in the Ministry of Economy and Finance's customer satisfaction survey, and this year it was also chosen as an excellent disclosure institution in the integrated public institution disclosure. The museum continues to achieve visible results, including winning the Korea Education Donation Grand Prize, the top prize at the Korea SNS Awards, and ranking third in the Ministry of Science and ICT-affiliated public institution brand reputation.
According to the tourism knowledge information system under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Busan Science Museum ranked first among tourist destinations in the Busan area as of 2024. The analysis attributes this to the museum's focus on science content-based exhibitions and experiences, establishing it as a leading regional tourist attraction.
Director Song Samjong emphasized, "The consistently positive evaluations over the past ten years are thanks to the efforts of our staff and the continued support of our visitors," adding, "We will continue to grow as a science museum trusted by the local community and the public."
Earlier this month, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, the museum held a seminar to reflect on its achievements and explore future strategies. In the second half of the year, it plans to present a variety of content, including its flagship program 'HelloMaker,' a renewal of the permanent exhibition hall, and science sharing education initiatives.
