Gyeonggi Province Governor Dongyeon Kim stated that, regarding the retaining wall collapse accident at the Gajang Intersection in Osan that occurred on the evening of the 16th, if responsibility needs to be determined, he will ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Governor Kim visited the site of the Osan retaining wall collapse on this day and said, "A very unfortunate accident occurred today," adding, "Just after 7 p.m., the retaining wall you see over there collapsed, resulting in casualties."
He continued, "Some abnormalities were detected on the overpass above, so we implemented traffic control early on. However, due to the collapse of this retaining wall, a passing vehicle was buried, leading to a tragic loss of life," and added, "I offer my deepest condolences to the family members."

He also said, "The cause of the accident has not yet been identified, but since about 61mm of rain fell this time, we will cooperate with the police to determine the cause of the accident, including how much impact the rain may have had. Once the cause is revealed, we will clearly identify who is responsible."
Earlier, at around 7:04 p.m. on the same day, a major accident occurred near the Gajang Intersection in Gajang-dong, Osan, when a retaining wall (10 meters high, 40 meters long) of an overpass collapsed, covering two passing vehicles. As a result of the accident, one vehicle was completely buried, and the front part of another following vehicle was partially damaged. Rescue teams were deployed and rescued a male driver in his 40s from the buried vehicle, but he was in cardiac arrest and was transported to the hospital.
