"European Version Also in the Works"
The variety show "Physical: 100" will be adapted into a U.S. version.
On July 16, Netflix announced that it will produce "Physical: 100 USA" (working title). "Physical: 100" is a survival variety show in which 100 contestants from sports, fitness, and military backgrounds in Korea compete in physical challenges. The U.S. version will also feature 100 contestants from similar fields engaging in intense competition. Kihwan Yoo, Netflix's Nonfiction Director, stated, "It will offer a similar yet distinct kind of entertainment compared to 'Physical: 100.'"
"Physical: 100" was planned and directed by producer Jang Hogi, who was part of the MBC documentary team in 2023. The show garnered attention as content that broke down the boundaries between terrestrial TV and online video services (OTT). It became the first Korean variety show to top Netflix's non-English show rankings, and the following year, its second season, "Physical: 100 - Underground," also reached number one in the same category. In the fourth quarter of this year, "Physical: Asia," featuring participants such as Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao in a national team competition, will be released.
Netflix stated, "Following the Asian and U.S. versions, a European regional version of the 'Physical: 100' format is also in preparation."
