President Donald Trump of the United States has persuaded conservative lawmakers in Congress who had opposed the so-called "Genius Bill," one of the three major virtual asset bills.
On the 15th (local time), President Trump announced via his social media platform, Truth Social, "I am currently in the Oval Office with 11 of the 12 lawmakers whose support is needed to pass the Genius Bill."
President Trump stated, "After a brief discussion, everyone agreed to vote in favor of the bill tomorrow morning," adding, "Speaker of the House Mike Johnson participated in the meeting by phone, and I look forward to his participation in the vote as soon as possible."
Earlier that morning, President Trump also posted on his social media, urging for the swift passage of the bill.
Speaker Johnson wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "I am grateful to President Trump for personally helping tonight to ensure the Genius Bill can pass tomorrow," and added, "I also appreciate his renewed commitment to help advance additional virtual asset legislation in the coming days."
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives designated the period as "crypto week" and planned to pass three virtual asset bills. However, disagreements emerged within the Republican Party over how to proceed with the bills, resulting in the defeat of a procedural rule vote necessary to begin deliberations.
Bloomberg News reported that after President Trump's intervention, the Republican House leadership's plan to pass the three virtual asset bills appeared to be back on track.
