Yuncheol Kim, Hapcheon Governor, Holds Press Conference for 3rd Anniversary of 8th Term and Outlines Plans for Final Year

"We Will Actively Strive to Secure New Growth Engines
for the Future"

Yuncheol Kim, Governor of Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province, held a press conference with journalists in the main conference room of the county office on July 16 to mark the third anniversary of the 8th elected term. He shared the main achievements of the past three years as well as the policy goals and directions for the remaining year.


According to the county’s plans and vision, in response to the crisis of local extinction, a 30-unit Happy Housing complex for young people and newlyweds (KRW 13.3 billion) is scheduled for completion in June next year to improve the residential environment. A 30-unit public rental housing project for young people (KRW 13.3 billion) is also planned for completion in March 2027. A welfare housing project for the elderly, consisting of 116 units (KRW 32.2 billion), is scheduled to be completed in December next year. In addition, a youth job-linked housing support project (KRW 14 billion) will be implemented.


For the construction of the Dumusan pumped-storage power plant, with a project cost of KRW 1.8 trillion, administrative procedures such as a preliminary feasibility study and environmental impact assessment are underway. The county also plans to attract a pumped-storage power plant of the same scale in Odosan, aiming to operate the nation’s first and largest twin pumped-storage power plants.

To build a golf course near the station area, 88.2% of the land has been secured, and the county is working to be selected for the public land reserve project to develop the Hapcheon station area. To strengthen customized welfare services, a memorial facility for Korean atomic bomb victims will be constructed at a cost of KRW 5.97 billion.


To become a global cultural city with history and culture, the Hapcheon Culture and Arts Center will be built with a budget of KRW 49.2 billion. In addition, KRW 2 billion will be invested to maintain the Okjeon Ancient Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and to operate exploration programs.


With a budget of KRW 51.1 billion, the county will promote the regeneration of aging tourist sites and the development of open tourist attractions at Hapcheon Lake, Hwangmaesan Mountain, and the Video Theme Park to foster a healing tourism city. A sky garden will be created at the Tripitaka Koreana Theme Park, and a water tourism platform will be established at Hapcheon Lake.


To increase the income of those in agriculture, livestock, and forestry, the county will promote the activation of the agricultural product processing center, the revitalization of the Hapcheon local food direct sales store, the operation of the agricultural product safety analysis laboratory, the construction of a raw material fermentation facility at the fiber feed factory, and customized forest income support projects.


Governor Kim stated, "During the 8th elected term, we have pursued balanced development in various fields such as administration, economy, tourism, energy, and housing based on the unique characteristics and potential of each region. By directly confronting the nationwide challenge of regional extinction, we have achieved meaningful turning points in improving residential conditions, developing tourism resources, and transitioning to future-oriented agriculture. We will continue our efforts to secure new growth engines for the future of the region."
