Chungnam Province and its 15 cities and counties held an emergency countermeasures meeting to prepare for heavy summer rainfall and reviewed their natural disaster response systems.

On July 16, the province convened an "Emergency Heavy Rain Countermeasures Meeting (Local Network Video Conference)" at the disaster situation room of the provincial government office, presided over by Deputy Governor Jungju Park. During the meeting, participants shared weather updates and response plans for each city and county, and discussed possible response measures.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, Chungnam is expected to receive 50 to 100 mm of rain from the afternoon of July 16 through July 17, with the west coast and northern inland areas potentially seeing more than 200 mm of rainfall.

In particular, the west coast is expected to experience very heavy rain of 30 to 50 mm per hour from 12:00 p.m., and inland areas from 6:00 p.m. on July 16 until 6:00 a.m. on July 17.

In response, the province and its cities and counties conducted preliminary inspections of 17,647 vulnerable sites, including areas at risk of flooding and landslides, and completed safety measures such as sewer dredging, cleaning of rainwater inlets, installation of waterproof sheets, and deployment of water pumps.

The province activated its initial response system from 8:30 a.m. on July 16, and plans to immediately activate the Provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters if a weather warning is issued.

In addition, through the Chungnam SAFEZONE system, the province will promote preemptive evacuation before sunset and actively support the evacuation of vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, by utilizing the Safety Partner system.

During the meeting, Deputy Governor Jungju Park emphasized, "Please thoroughly implement flood prevention measures, including sewer maintenance in areas prone to habitual flooding, prevention of basement housing inundation, and landslide prevention. As the top priority in disaster management is the prevention of casualties, establish a system for real-time information sharing and swift on-site response."
