13 Educational Institutions Designated to Train Regulatory Science Professionals in Food and Pharmaceuticals

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Designates 13 Training Institutions
for Regulatory Science Professionals in Food, Pharmaceuticals, and Medical Devices

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 16th that it has designated 13 institutions with educational capabilities and expertise in regulatory science for the food, pharmaceutical, and medical device sectors as training institutions for 'regulatory science professionals'.


13 Educational Institutions Designated to Train Regulatory Science Professionals in Food and Pharmaceuticals

Regulatory science professionals are individuals with expertise in food and pharmaceutical systems and laws, as well as technologies and regulations for innovative products, who support the development, commercialization, and safe use of innovative products.


This designation is based on Article 15 of the 'Regulatory Science Innovation Act for the Safety and Commercialization Support of Foods, Pharmaceuticals, etc.' The goal is to establish a foundation for systematically nurturing regulatory science professionals with strong regulatory response capabilities throughout the entire product lifecycle in each sector.


The Ministry evaluated applicant institutions based on the excellence of their curricula, educational management capabilities, and adequacy of facilities and equipment, and selected 13 institutions, including: those with experimental and practical education infrastructure; those operating customized education based on industry demand; those with extensive experience in training regulatory science professionals; and those with comprehensive regulatory response capabilities throughout the product lifecycle.


The designated institutions are divided by field: four in food, five in pharmaceuticals, two in medical devices, and two in regulatory science policy. These include: Department of Food Regulatory Science at Korea University Sejong Campus; Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute; Korea Health Supplements Association; Department of Regulatory Science at Kyung Hee University; Department of Biohealth Regulatory Science at Sungkyunkwan University; Department of Biohealth Regulatory Science at Ajou University; Institute for Future Innovation at Seoul National University Gyeonggi Siheung SNU Pharmaceutical Bio Workforce Training Center; Vaccine Safety Technology Support Center; Department of Biohealth Medical Device Regulatory Science at Dongguk University; Korea Testing & Research Institute; Department of Food and Medical Product Regulatory Policy at Dongguk University; and Korea Regulatory Science Center.


According to the characteristics of each institution, they will operate short-term and mid-to-long-term educational programs in their specialized fields and provide training that systematically strengthens practical regulatory capabilities.


The Ministry stated, "We expect that the enhancement of regulatory response expertise and industrial competitiveness, as well as the influx of talent with high regulatory understanding into industry and government agencies, will contribute to revitalizing product development."
