Gyeonggi Province Requests Contract for Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line, Extension of Subway Line 9

Gyeonggi Province announced on July 16 that it has requested a contract from the Public Procurement Service for Sections 2 to 6 of the Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line Metropolitan Railroad, an extension of Seoul Subway Line 9 connecting Jinjeop District in Namyangju and Gangdong District in Seoul.

The Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line is a project to construct a new 17.59-kilometer section with eight stations (including three transfer stations) and one train depot, connecting Gangdong District in Seoul, Misa District in Hanam, Dasan Jigeum District in Namyangju, Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 Districts, and Jinjeop 2 District. The total project cost is 2.9334 trillion won, and the line is targeted to open in 2031.

The Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line is a key project of the metropolitan transportation improvement plan for the Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 public housing districts in Namyangju, which are part of the third phase new town development plan to supply 300,000 new homes for housing market stabilization. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the northeastern region of the Seoul metropolitan area.

In the first half of this year, administrative procedures such as the review of bidding methods, contract review, review of the bidding guide, and preliminary review by the Public Procurement Service were completed.

Starting in the second half of the year, basic design for Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be carried out to select the eligible contractor for detailed design. After completing the detailed design, the project will obtain approval of the project plan from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, with construction scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.

Kim Kibum, Director of the Rail, Port, and Logistics Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will make thorough preparations to ensure the Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line project proceeds swiftly, taking into account the move-in schedule of residents in the third phase new towns."
