Team Coaching by World-Renowned Roboticist Dennis Hong, UCLA Professor
Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul will host the '1st Yeongdeungpo Robot Competition' and is recruiting 200 participants.
This competition will be held under the theme of 'Purpose Built Mobility (PBV) System Implementation.' Purpose Built Mobility (PBV) refers to smart mobility solutions designed and manufactured for specific purposes and uses. Examples include mobile hospitals that travel to patients or disaster relief robot vehicles.
On the day of the competition, teams will have a special opportunity to receive professional guidance through team coaching by world-renowned roboticist Dennis Hong, a professor at UCLA. Robot kits will be provided for the competition, and participants must complete a mobility robot that is controlled by code without manual operation.
The competition will take place on September 27 at the Yeongdeungpo District Multipurpose Badminton Gymnasium. Eligible participants are 4th to 6th grade elementary school students residing in Yeongdeungpo District, and the participation fee is 10,000 won. There will also be three in-person pre-competition training sessions mentored by expert instructors from Ewha Womans University.
Applications can be submitted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Yeongdeungpo District website's integrated reservation system until August 14.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, "This is a great opportunity for students to develop creative thinking and discover their infinite potential through science and technology experiences," and added, "We will continue to actively support a variety of educational and experiential programs to foster future convergence science talent."
