Morse Tan (Korean name: Dan Hyunmyung), a professor at Liberty University in the United States who previously claimed that President Lee Jaemyung was involved in violent crimes during his youth, has defended former President Yoon Sukyeol's declaration of martial law.
On July 15, during a meeting in front of the main gate of Seoul National University, Professor Tan stated, "All leaders who are devoted to saving the Republic of Korea are currently in darkness, and former President Yoon is among them." He continued, "He saw the influence of the Chinese Communist Party and North Korea, and also foresaw the risks of election manipulation."
He added, "He stood up for the people of Korea who were unaware, and tried to gather evidence of election fraud through the declaration of martial law."
Professor Tan was originally scheduled to give a special lecture at Hoam Faculty House at Seoul National University, hosted by the domestic conservative group Truth Forum. However, after the university canceled the venue reservation, he delivered his speech in front of the main gate.
Professor Tan, who served as the U.S. State Department Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice during the first Trump administration, has previously claimed conspiracy theories such as "China intervened in Korea's fraudulent elections" and "President Lee Jaemyung was sent to a juvenile detention center as a child." He has been accused of defamation by spreading false information, and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit recently took charge of the case and has launched an investigation.
