A man accused of illegally climbing Seoul's Namsan Tower and filming a video from the top of the structure has been referred to the prosecution.

On July 15, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that the man who illegally climbed Namsan Tower was sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of trespassing on a structure in mid-June. According to police, the man is suspected of climbing to the top of Namsan Tower without permission around mid-April.

The man also uploaded the video he filmed at the time to his social networking service (SNS) account. During the police investigation, he reportedly stated that he climbed the tower "because he likes high places."

The crime of trespassing on a structure is defined in Article 319 of the Criminal Act, alongside the crime of home invasion. It punishes acts of unlawfully entering another person's building (other than a residence) and disturbing the peace. The maximum penalty is three years in prison or a fine of 5 million won.
