The Hongju Cultural Tourism Foundation in Hongseong County, South Chungcheong Province, announced on July 15 that it will be accepting applications for the "2025 Local Culture Enjoyment Expansion
The "Village Nureum" busking performances aim to expand opportunities for experiencing the arts at major attractions and social welfare facilities within the county. The project involves holding street performances around tourist sites and in culturally underserved areas, so that residents can naturally enjoy culture in their everyday community spaces. The initiative is being promoted to revitalize cultural and artistic activities among local residents and to increase opportunities for cultural enjoyment.
As part of the Republic of Korea's Cultural City Development Project, this open call for artists is open to any individual or group capable of street performances in a variety of genres, including music, performance, dance, and traditional arts. Any county resident may apply. Applications will be accepted until July 20. Approximately 45 teams who pass the first round of document screening will be invited to participate in a second round, a public audition, to be held on the evening of July 26 at a special outdoor stage inside Hongju Eupseong Fortress. Around 30 performance teams will be selected as finalists.
The selected teams will carry out various performances from August through November, a four-month period. Activity support funds of up to 1.8 million won per team will be provided, depending on the number of participants. Detailed information about the open call for Village Nureum busking artists can be found on the Hongju Cultural Tourism Foundation website, and inquiries can be made to the Cultural City Center for further guidance.
Choi Geonhwan, CEO of the Hongju Cultural Tourism Foundation, said, "Through street art, we hope to provide opportunities for both local residents and tourists to enjoy culture together, and to create a foundation for mutual prosperity between artists and the local community. We look forward to the interest and participation of many passionate and talented artists."
