After signing a three-party export agreement in 2022 with Ganghwa County and local distributor KFT, Incheon City established its first overseas permanent sales outlet at the York Mills branch?the largest Korean market in Toronto?in June last year. Through this, the city exported 30 tons of Ganghwa Island rice and 35 types of processed foods, marking its entry into the North American market.
Building on high satisfaction among local consumers and positive responses from the Korean community, the city expanded its permanent sales outlets this year to a total of three locations: Oakville and Thornhill branches, in addition to York Mills. To date, Incheon City has exported 147 tons of Ganghwa Island rice and 58 types of processed foods to the Canadian market.
Toronto is the largest city in Canada and home to the largest Korean community in North America. Incheon City considers this area a strategic base for entering the North American agricultural and food market.
Yoo Jeongbok, Mayor of Incheon, who is currently on a business trip to Canada, said, "This event has served as an opportunity to directly promote the global market competitiveness and brand value of Incheon’s agricultural and food products, going beyond simple export." He added, "We will continue to make efforts so that Incheon’s agricultural and food products can be stably exported and so that farmers can tangibly benefit."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Mayor Yoo held a meeting with Korean businesspeople in Toronto and requested their interest and active participation in the "World Korean Business Convention" to be held in Incheon this October, as well as the "World Korean Business Conference" scheduled for April next year.
